Baller Style: Giancarlo Stanton and Gianluca Isaia Talk Made-To-Measure Suiting
We paired the Miami Marlins right fielder with the head of the renowned Italian brand for a master class in men’s style.
Giancarlo Stanton stands a towering 6’6” and tips the scales at 240 pounds. His size and reach make him a powerhouse hitter for the Miami Marlins, but can also mean that the right fielder has some trouble when it comes to finding tailored menswear. “I have bigger shoulders and a smaller waist, so finding a suit that fits can be a problem,” Stanton recently told us. “Many stores don’t even carry my jacket size.”
For the dapper guy who has Stanton’s difficulty with fitting off-the-rack pieces—or for the guy who just knows what he likes and wants to create a piece to perfectly complement his own style—custom suiting can be the answer. So on a recent visit to our Beverly Hills flagship, we were more than happy to introduce Stanton to Gianluca Isaia and his brand’s renowned Neapolitan tailors who epitomize the expert craftsmanship and elegance of made-to-measure suiting. With options to customize fabric selections, pocket placement, lapel shape, buttons, and other variables, a client is sure to get a suit or sport coat that’s custom-made in every sense.
“The made-to-measure customer is the most passionate when it comes to clothing,” Isaiatold us. “Most of our made-to-measure clients are people who want the pleasure and the emotion that they can get from the experience.”
For Stanton, that meant adding a touch of playfulness to his suit. “I put together something a bit unexpected with elements of lavender and grey,” Stanton said. “I have my own style—I don’t like to copy anybody.”
Isaia walked Stanton through fabric selections for his sport coat and trousers, with additional selections made for the lining of the jacket and the underside of the collar. “It’s the details that make the difference,” Isaia said.
Stanton agreed, saying, “When you get to pick all the details head to toe, not only is it a lot of fun, but you also can make sure you get it all right.”
